The global economic slowdown is affecting the hotel industry. Accor SA, the big European-based international hotelier operating the Sofitel and Pullman brands, said today first-half profit fell by 48 per cent. France and Germany remain stable but Accor is cutting jobs at its U.S. and Latin American hotels, cutting back on marketing expense and beefing up its computer systems.
